Hybrid solar bill of materials template
A hybrid solar system keeps a grid connection and adds a battery for backup. One hybrid inverter manages the panels, the battery and the grid together. The table is the default list the app starts from, read from its records when this page is built. Compared with on-grid, it adds a battery bank and uses a hybrid inverter.

How a hybrid system works
The hybrid inverter decides, moment by moment, whether solar power goes to the loads, to the battery or to the grid. When the grid fails it can keep selected loads running from the battery and the panels, which an on-grid inverter cannot do.
What is different in this list
Lines found only in this list: Hybrid Inverter. Lines in the other lists but not in this one: On-Grid Inverter, Lightning Arrestor, Off-Grid Inverter/PCU and VFD Panel.
Quantity is left for you to set on: Solar PV Module, Battery Bank, DC Cable and AC Cable.
Quantity is fixed in the template on: Hybrid Inverter (1 Nos), Mounting Structure (1 Set), AC/DC Distribution Box (1 Set) and Earthing Kit (3 Set). Change these if the project needs a different count.
Hybrid or on-grid with a battery added later
Some customers start on-grid and add a battery afterwards. That works only if the inverter is able to take a battery, so say clearly in the quotation which kind of inverter is being supplied. A hybrid inverter costs more up front but avoids a second inverter later.
Choosing the backup loads
Backup rarely covers the whole building. A common approach is a separate panel for the critical loads, such as lights, fans, a refrigerator and a router. The size of that panel decides the battery and inverter ratings, so agree the list with the customer.

Frequently asked questions
What makes a hybrid list different from an on-grid one?
It swaps the grid-tied inverter for a hybrid inverter and adds a battery bank. The mounting, protection, cables and earthing lines are much the same.
Will a hybrid system run the whole building in an outage?
Only if it is sized for that, which is uncommon. Most are designed to back up a chosen set of loads, and the quotation should list them.
Who decides the battery quantity?
You do, for each project. The default list leaves it blank and refers to the battery spec chosen in the quotation, since the right size follows the backup loads and hours.

Not saying which inverter is supplied
A customer who adds a battery later needs an inverter that can take one, so say clearly in the quotation whether the inverter is a hybrid inverter.
Promising backup for the whole building
Backup rarely covers the whole building. Agree the list of critical loads with the customer, because it decides the battery and inverter ratings.
Promising net metering or a subsidy unchecked
Whether a hybrid system with a battery qualifies depends on the state and the scheme. Check the current rules with the distribution company before promising either.
What to check before you send
- The quotation says whether the inverter is a hybrid inverter
- The backup loads are listed and agreed with the customer
- The battery quantity follows the backup loads and hours
- Net metering and subsidy eligibility were checked with the distribution company
