PM-KUSUM solar pump: how the application process works
PM-KUSUM is a ministry scheme, and standalone solar pumps are its second component. States run it through a nodal agency, usually with online farmer registration on a state portal. Terms, pump sizes and vendor rules differ by state, so confirm them with the state nodal agency before you quote a farmer.

What the pump component covers
The scheme has three components. The second supports individual farmers in installing standalone solar pumps, either replacing diesel pumps or serving new off-grid irrigation points. The ministry sets the framework, and a state nodal agency coordinates with the state, the DISCOMs and farmers.
The other components cover solar plants on farm land and the solarisation of pumps already on the grid. A farmer with a grid-connected pump is in a different component from one with a standalone pump, so check which one applies.
How a farmer usually applies
In states that publish the process, the farmer registers on the state's portal and submits an application with identity and land details. The nodal agency reviews it, and an approved pump is supplied and installed by a vendor the state accepts.
Some states tender the pump supply, so the farmer may not choose the vendor. The published example this guide reads is from one state, and other states differ in portal, documents and timing.
What this means for a quotation
A private pump quotation is not a scheme quotation. Say plainly which one it is. For a scheme job, the vendor must meet the state's conditions, and the farmer's share is set by the state, not by the dealer.
Give the pump's make, rating and drive in the bill of materials, as the VFD pump template shows. The module condition in the DCR guide also applies to schemes that ask for it.
Keep sizing separate
Pump sizing is a design question, covered in the solar pump sizing guide. A scheme rule should not decide the size of a pump the farm cannot use.
Step by step
Find the state nodal agency
Identify the agency that runs the scheme in the farmer's state and read its published process.
Check the component
Confirm that the farmer needs a standalone pump and not a grid-connected one.
Confirm the vendor rules
Ask whether the state tenders the supply or lists accepted vendors.
Support the registration
Help the farmer register on the state portal with the documents it asks for.
Label the quotation
State whether the quotation is a scheme job or a private sale.
Common mistakes
Quoting the farmer's share from memory
The scheme and the state set it and it changes, so read it from the nodal agency.
Offering a scheme price without meeting the state's conditions
Some states tender the supply or list accepted vendors, so confirm first.
Assuming one state's process applies everywhere
Portals, documents and timing differ by state.
Mixing up the components
A standalone pump and a grid-connected pump fall under different components.
What to check before you send
- You found the state nodal agency and its portal
- The farmer needs a standalone pump, not a grid-connected one
- The vendor conditions in that state are confirmed in writing
- The quotation says whether it is a scheme job or a private sale
- No share, subsidy or pump limit is printed without a source
- Pump sizing is settled apart from the scheme rules

Frequently asked questions
Who runs PM-KUSUM in a state?
A state nodal agency of the ministry coordinates it with the state, the distribution companies and farmers. Find your state's agency and read its published process.
Can any dealer sell a pump under the scheme?
Not necessarily. The state sets the vendor conditions, and some states tender the supply. Confirm with the nodal agency before you offer a scheme price.
How much does the farmer pay?
The share is set by the scheme and the state, and it changes. This guide gives no figure, so read it from the nodal agency before you quote.
Does a scheme job need DCR modules?
The scheme conditions include domestic content for the modules, as the DCR guide describes. Check the state's current conditions for the job.
