Solar subsidy in India by state
Rooftop solar customers in India may receive a central subsidy and, in some states, a state top-up. This guide reads the rules from our records, labels each one verified or unverified, and says plainly what is not confirmed. The final amount always comes from the official scheme, so confirm it with your state nodal agency or DISCOM.

How the subsidy works
The subsidy is paid by the government to the customer after commissioning; you pay the full amount quoted. It needs a DISCOM-registered vendor, net metering and DCR/ALMM-listed modules, and the final amount follows MNRE/state guidelines.
A state top-up depends on the customer's state (the installation site), not the installer's company state.
Who qualifies
Eligibility criteria are not listed on this page yet. They will be added only with a link to the official scheme text. Until then, rely on the requirements above and your nodal agency.
Explaining it to a residential customer
These steps use only what this page already says, so you can explain the subsidy without promising an amount.
- Find the customer's state in the state index below. A state top-up depends on the customer's state (the installation site), not the installer's company state.
- Read the label on the rule. A rule marked unverified has no recorded check date, so confirm the amount with the state nodal agency or DISCOM before you rely on it. "No state rule on file" means only that we hold none, not that the state offers nothing.
- Show the figure as an indicative estimate and say that the official scheme decides the final amount.
- Tell the customer the conditions. The subsidy is paid by the government to the customer after commissioning; you pay the full amount quoted. It needs a DISCOM-registered vendor, net metering and DCR/ALMM-listed modules, and the final amount follows MNRE/state guidelines.

Frequently asked questions
Who is the subsidy paid to, and what does it need?
The subsidy is paid by the government to the customer after commissioning; you pay the full amount quoted. It needs a DISCOM-registered vendor, net metering and DCR/ALMM-listed modules, and the final amount follows MNRE/state guidelines.
Why is a rule marked unverified?
A rule is marked verified only when it carries the date on which it was checked against the official notification. Rules without that date are shown as unverified: confirm with your state nodal agency / discom before relying on an amount.
Does my state add its own subsidy?
A state top-up depends on the customer's state (the installation site), not the installer's company state. The state index lists where a rule is on file here; for any other state, ask the nodal agency or DISCOM.

Create your accountCommon mistakes
Using your company's state
A state top-up depends on the customer's state, which is the installation site, not the installer's company state.
Treating an unverified amount as confirmed
A rule without a check date is shown as unverified. Confirm the amount with your state nodal agency or DISCOM before you rely on it.
Reading no state rule on file as no subsidy
It means only that we hold none, not that the state offers nothing.
Taking the subsidy off the quoted price
The subsidy is paid by the government to the customer after commissioning, and the customer pays the full amount quoted.
What to check before you send
- You used the customer's state, not your company's state
- Each figure you rely on shows a verified label and a check date
- Unverified figures are confirmed with the state nodal agency or DISCOM
- The quotation calls the subsidy indicative and does not promise an amount
- The requirements listed under How the subsidy works are met
