DCR: meaning in solar

DCR stands for domestic content requirement. In ministry solar schemes it means the modules must be made in India from domestically made cells, and the maker must be able to prove it. Subsidy and public-sector schemes ask for DCR modules, while an unsubsidised private project is not bound by that scheme condition.

DCR is a condition set by a scheme, not a quality grade. A module can perform well and still be non-DCR because its cells were made abroad, and a DCR module is not better for that reason alone.

The ministry runs a verification portal where manufacturers record the cells and modules they make. A module whose DCR status cannot be verified there is not accepted under the schemes that require it, so the module line on a quotation should say plainly whether it is DCR.
