CGST, SGST and IGST: meaning in solar

CGST, SGST and IGST are the three heads of GST. When the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, the tax splits into equal central and state parts, CGST and SGST. When they are in different states, a single IGST is charged. The rate depends on the goods or service, not on the head.

The head changes how the tax is shown and shared, not how much of it there is: the same total appears either as two equal halves or as one amount. A worked example uses placeholders, not real rates. Take a line with a taxable value V and a rate R that you have set for it, so the tax on the line is V multiplied by R. If your company and the customer are in the same state, half of that tax is CGST and half is SGST. If the customer is in another state, the whole amount is IGST. The tax is the same either way and only the heads differ, and the solar GST calculator lets you try it with your own rates.

Special cases exist, such as union territories, so a quotation for an unusual location should be checked with a tax adviser.
