Payback period: meaning in solar
Payback period is the time a solar system takes to earn back its net cost through the electricity bills it avoids. It is the net cost after any subsidy divided by the yearly saving. It ignores what happens after the payback year, so it says nothing about the total gain over the life of the system.

In more detail
The result is only as good as its inputs: tariff changes, how much of the output is used on site and how the system ages all move it.
Show the assumptions beside the figure. A payback with no stated tariff or yield cannot be checked by the customer.
Where it shows up in the app
The free payback calculator works on the net cost and shows its formula and assumptions. A quotation itself does not promise a payback.
